This painting is a beautiful mash-up of The Monster and The Bride with Sid and Nancy. Both relationships doomed from the beginning.
In Deborah Spungen’s book, And I Don’t Want To Live This Life, she recounts her first impression of her daughter’s boyfriend, Sid Vicious, after seeing him for the first time on a television talk show…
“…Then the camera moved in on Sid. I couldn’t believe it. The newspaper photos hadn’t prepared me. He was extremely tall, pale, and cadaverous. With his drooping eye and malevolent expression, he had to be the creepiest-looking young man on the face of the earth. He looked like Frankenstein’s monster. My daughter was living with Frankenstein’s monster.”

"...Then the camera moved in on Sid. I couldn't believe it. The newspaper photos hadn't prepared me. He was extremely tall, pale, and cadaverous. With his drooping eye and malevolent expression, he had to be the creepiest-looking young man on the face of the earth. He looked like Frankenstein's monster.
